About The Service
What does 3DTuner do?
3DTuner is an online tool that allows you to change the base frequency tuning of your audio files. The most common use is to convert music from the standard A=440 Hz tuning to alternative frequencies like A=432 Hz or A=528 Hz, which many people find more harmonious and pleasant to listen to.
How does the conversion process work?
Our conversion engine uses a high-quality, multi-step process with a `rubberband` fallback powered by FFmpeg. This sophisticated method adjusts the pitch of your audio to the new base frequency while preserving the original tempo and minimizing audio quality loss. We also embed a `3dtuner_freq` metadata tag in the converted file so you can verify its new pitch later.
How to Convert Your Music
Converting your music files with 3DTuner is simple. Follow these steps to transform your audio to your desired frequency:
1Choose your audio file
Click the upload area on the homepage or drag and drop your audio file. We support MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, and M4A formats.
2Select the original frequency
Choose the original frequency of your audio file. Most commercial music is tuned to 440 Hz, so if you're unsure, select 440 Hz.
3Choose your target frequency
Select the frequency you want to convert to. The most popular choices are 432 Hz and 528 Hz.
4Start the conversion
Click the "Convert Now" button and wait while our system processes your file.
5Download your converted file
Once conversion is complete, download your new audio file. The download link will be active for 24 hours.
A Note on Vocals & Conversion Quality
Why do vocals sometimes sound distorted after a large pitch shift?
You may notice that when converting music with prominent vocals over a wide frequency range (e.g., from 440 Hz to 639 Hz), the voice can sometimes have a slight "wobble" or digital artifact. This is a known challenge in audio engineering. The human voice is an incredibly complex instrument, and large pitch shifts can be difficult for any algorithm to process with perfect transparency.
What is the recommendation for files with vocals?
For the best and most natural-sounding results with vocal tracks, we strongly recommend performing **small pitch shifts**. Converting from the standard 440 Hz to the nearby **432 Hz** almost always produces a clean, artifact-free result.
What about instrumental music?
Instrumental music (tracks without singing) handles large pitch shifts much more cleanly. You can confidently convert your instrumental, ambient, or classical music across the full range of frequencies available on 3DTuner with excellent results.
User Tiers, Limits & Contributions
What are the different user tiers and their limits?
We offer three levels of access:
- Guest (Unregistered): You can perform **2 free conversions every 24 hours**, with a file size limit of **25 MB**.
- Free Registered: By creating a free account and verifying your email, your daily limit increases to **5 free conversions every 24 hours**, and your file size limit increases to **60 MB**. You also gain access to your conversion history and the A/B comparison tool.
- Supporter (via Contribution): By making a contribution of $5 or more, you become a supporter. Your daily limit is removed, and your account will be credited with a number of conversion tokens. Contributions of $100 or more grant One Year of Unlimited conversions. See our Support Us page for details.
How is my 24-hour limit calculated?
The 24-hour limit for Guest and Free Registered users resets at midnight each day based on the server's time (UTC).
It says my daily limit is reached but I haven't converted any files today. Why?
Our guest access uses an IP-based system to manage free conversion limits. It's possible you are on a shared or recycled IP address that has already reached the daily limit. For your own personal counter of 5 free daily conversions, please create a free account.
How do tokens work for Supporters?
When you contribute, you receive a balance of tokens (e.g., a $5 contribution gives 1,000 tokens). Each conversion costs 10 tokens. You can convert as much as you like, as long as you have a token balance. This system replaces the daily conversion limit. Your file size limit is also increased to 60 MB.
What do I get for contributing $100 or more?
A contribution of $100 or more grants you **One Year of Unlimited** access. For one full year from the date of your contribution, you can perform unlimited conversions without using tokens, and your file size limit is increased to **60 MB**.
Features & Functionality
What is the "Beta" Pitch Detection feature?
Our Automatic Pitch Detection tool analyzes your audio file *before* conversion to determine its current base frequency. It first looks for our custom `3dtuner_freq` metadata tag. If not found, it defaults to 440 Hz, as this is the most common standard for modern music. This ensures the "Original Frequency" is set as accurately as possible.
What does the "Verify Pitch" button do?
After a conversion, the "Verify Pitch" button (on the results page or your dashboard) calls our API to analyze the converted file. It specifically reads the `3dtuner_freq` metadata tag that we embedded, providing confirmation that the file was successfully retuned to the target frequency.
How does the A/B Comparison tool work?
The A/B Comparison tool, available to registered users, opens a player in a modal window. It allows you to play your original, local audio file and seamlessly switch back and forth with the newly converted version streamed from our server. This lets you directly compare the sound and feel of the two different tunings in real-time.
Troubleshooting
Why do I see the message "Pitch not detected. Defaulting to 440 Hz"?
This message appears when our Automatic Pitch Detection tool analyzes your uploaded audio file but cannot determine its base frequency with a high degree of confidence. Our system is designed to report a pitch only when it meets a high accuracy threshold to avoid providing incorrect information.
There are several reasons why a pitch might not be detected:
- The audio is already tuned to 440 Hz. This is the most common reason. Since 440 Hz is the standard for most modern music, our tool will often confirm this by defaulting to it when no other dominant, alternative tuning is found.
- Complex Audio or Multiple Pitches: Audio files that are harmonically complex, contain multiple instruments with slightly different tunings, have significant reverb, or are noisy can make it difficult for the algorithm to isolate a single, consistent base frequency.
- Non-Standard or Obscure Tunings: The audio may be in a very unusual tuning that doesn't align with the common frequencies our system is optimized to detect.
What should I do if I know my audio's pitch is not 440 Hz but it wasn't detected?
If you are confident that your audio file has a specific tuning other than 440 Hz, you can easily set it manually. In the "Original Frequency" dropdown menu, simply select "Custom..." and enter the correct Hz value into the input box that appears. This will ensure the conversion is calculated from the correct starting point.
If you have a file that you believe should be detected correctly but isn't, or if you have any other questions about our pitch detection, please don't hesitate to contact us at support@3dtuner.com. Providing a sample of the audio file is always helpful for our team to investigate and improve the tool.
Privacy & File Handling
What happens to my uploaded files?
Your privacy is our priority. The original audio file you upload is deleted from our server immediately after the conversion process is complete. The newly converted file is stored in a secure, non-public directory and is only accessible via a unique, private download link.
How long are my converted files available for download?
Your unique download link for each converted file is valid for **24 hours**. After 24 hours, the converted file is automatically and permanently deleted from our servers by a scheduled cron job. Your conversion history on your dashboard will also only show records for files that are still available to download.
